Chapel and Heritage Fund
Generations
of pupils are justly proud of their school’s history, its buildings, and
artefacts. We are determined to preserve the heritage of the school for the
future, but it comes at a cost and we need additional support through the
Chapel and Heritage Fund to help us maintain and preserve our historic
buildings and our precious artefacts.
We are very grateful to parents and former pupils
who generously donated to the Chapel and Heritage Fund on Giving Day 2023.
Their support is already making a difference to some of our precious artefacts
and we have been able to
- repair and
restore the J J Jones portrait that hangs in the Dining
Hall,
- repair and
restore the Phillips Gates,
- commission an
adjustable organ bench,
- preserve the Bishop Lucy Flagon on
display in the 1541 exhibition
In
addition works to the roof trusses in the Aubrey Chapel (Vestry) to eliminate dry rot has been completed, and
a dehumidifier to preserve the organ has been installed
What is next?
Already planned from remaining funds is specialist repair to the Victorian pitch pine frame of the Chapel door, restoration of a pre-Reformation screen, and cleaning and rehanging of the portraits of two of our benefactors, Lord Atkin and J R Cobb.
With your support we can plan to undertake more projects, including
- Restoration of the medieval stalls. Est. £3,000
- Refurbishment of benches donated in memory of Old Breconians. Est. £1,000
- Repair, cleaning and restoration of the stained-glass windows in the Chapel and Aubrey Chapel (Vestry). Est. £70,000
